OCBC Summer Seminar grapples with ethics

July 22, 2014

IBERIA - The Ohio Central Bible College held its 10th seminar July 12 at Iberia Presbyterian Church. Residents gathered to learn more about “Christian Ethics and Morality from a Biblical Perspective: Living a Life that is Pleasing to God.” The seminar was presented by Dr. Rafael Velazco (Pastor Ralph), professor of religious studies at OCBC.

Pastor Ralph said that God’s intent for his creation is laid out in the first two chapters of Genesis and the first two chapters of Revelation. God created the world perfectly, with harmony, perfection and wholeness. Sin messed that up, but God continues to move His Creation toward “Shalom:” Peace, communion with God, perfection, wholeness and unity in Christ.

Everyone was involved in the discussions which included questions about how churches can help their members grow in their faith and practice their faith (Hebrews 10:19-25), how a Christian should decide on issues concerning being involved with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 7:1) and issues that surround the Bible’s urging of submitting to the government (Romans 13).

Pastor Ralph also recommended the book Moral Choices: An Introduction to Ethics by Scott B. Rae for further study in the areas presented in the seminar.

Ohio Central Bible College will hold fall registration Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. – 12 noon at the Iberia Presbyterian Church, 8609 County Road 30, Iberia. Scholarships and Independent Study are available. For more information on the Bible college go to their Facebook page, email or call 419-946-5576.
