School buses and children will need to find another route to Northmor for their first day of school on Sept. 7, as construction is now underway on the one-lane County Road 29 bridge, just west of the district’s schools and State Route 19.

Morrow County Commissioners approved a contract with U.S. Bridge Corporation of Cambridge, Ohio to replace the County Road 29 bridge.

The one lane bridge is now torn down and a two lane bridge will cross the creek. The contract was approved subject to terms and conditions of Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC). Funds for the project are provided by the OPWC.

Commissioner, Dick Miller said that the roadway is traveled by many school buses and cars to reach Northmor schools.

The commissioners initially hoped to have the project completed for the beginning of school, however it will be done a few weeks after school starts.

The bridge on Township Road 21 in Peru Township is also slated to be replaced in 2016. It was washed out in 2015.

Numerous other bridges in the county will get new decks and some abutment work. A complete listing of current and upcoming roadwork in Morrow County is posted online at www.morrowcountyohio.gov.

In their regular session Aug. 8, commissioners approved a 2016 chip and seal contract for county roads. The contract with 20/20 Enterprises, Inc. of Somerset, Ohio is for $300,000 and includes labor and materials.

The road work is part of the forecast plan submitted by Deputy Engineer, Bart Dennison to chip and seal approximately 50 miles of roads in the county in 2016.

During 2015, the Morrow County Engineer’s Office administered construction and maintenance projects over $1.9 million.

Two bridges were replaced during the year in 2015 using OPWC money and another 14 bridges were bid by the State of Ohio to be started and completed in 2015 and 2016 at the cost of $6,241,433.
