A unique program for children of separated or divorced families will be offered locally beginning September 16th. This is the only program of its kind within a 5 county area.

DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K) is a special group to help children heal from the hurt caused by the separation or divorce of their parents. At the weekly DC4K group, kids make friends with other kids who understand how they feel and the things they are going through. Best of all, children will learn how God’s love can strengthen them and give hope.

DC4K meets weekly for 13 weeks. The program combines games, crafts, activities, music and DVD dramas to create an atmosphere where children feel comfortable and accepted. It is designed for children in grades 1 through 5.

Each parent will receive a weekly “Parent Page” describing what the child has learned and offering tips to strengthen the parent/child relationship, creating stronger bonds in the single parent family. DC4K follows the same schedule and age-appropriate themes as the adult DivorceCare program which will be offered at the same time. This allows parents and children to progress through the healing process and provides a springboard for meaningful discussions. These are nondenominational programs which feature biblical teaching.

These groups for adults and children will begin on Wednesday evenings starting Sept. 16 at the Fredericktown United Methodist Church. Each evening begins with dinner (at no charge) followed by the group meetings. Child care is available for children under the age of 6.
