Raindrops were falling outdoors but the Patterson Gym at the Cardington-Lincoln Elementary School was in direct contrast with the warmth generated from 26 booths exhibiting different forms of healthy living during the first Health Fair.

Debbie Hart, Food Service Director, had obtained the funding for this event through an “Action for Healthy Kids’ Breakfast Grant,” in the amount of $1750 applied for in 2015. Because she had applied early, an additional $250 was added for food.

“They want us to have healthy activities that involve the community,” said Hart. “We invited the parents and grandparents to have breakfast one day with their children and grandchildren.”

She noted that $600 of the grant was used to purchase equipment. She said the kids especially like the Smoothies and pancake wraps they serve. This program is aimed at K-4 students but “we invited K-6,” said Hart.

The school counseling team was invited to join the program to meet the youngsters’ emotional needs. Helping were Carolyn Beal, Christy Roqueplot, the school’s principal, and Board of Education members Marilyn Davis and Vickie Kerman.

The event was so successful it is hoped they will have another fair in 2016. Door prizes were furnished by the Happy Wanderers, Cardington Food Service, Cardington Swimming Pool, Rightway Food Service, Capitol Theatre, Gleaners Life Insurance and the Cardington Counseling Team. Six cases of apples were also donated by Kroger.

Booths ringing the gym included the Morrow County Sheriff’s Department, Morrow County SFS, Morrow County Jobs and Family Services, Morrow County Hospital, Morrow County Health Department, Morrow County Health Center, Morrow County Extension Office/4-H, MCTC Transportation, Mt Gilead Soccer League, Hospice of Morrow County, Heartbeat of Morrow County, Happy Wanderers, The Food Pantry, Chester Arbor Gleaners (Farley-Peebles Ins); doTERRA Essential Oils, Delaware- Morrow County Helpline, Delaware- Morrow County Mental Health, Central Ohio Mental Health, Cardington Swimming Pool, Cardington Police Department, Cardington Physical Ed Department, the Cardington Elementary Guidance Grant, the Cardington-Lincoln Public Library and the Cardington Food Service- Kitchen Staff and Krogers.
