A record 575 people were present when the Cardington FFA held its annual banquet April 19.

The dinner was served in the Murphy Gym by All Occasion Catering, Waldo and ten cakes were baked by Amy Wollett. Following the dinner members and guests moved to the Drouhard auditorium where the program was conducted.

Welcoming guests was Erin Wollett, Agricultural teacher and chapter advisor. The program was conducted by the 2015-2016 officer team.

Among the awards announced were the top fruit sales awards. The chapter sold almost 34,000 worth of fruit and nuts. Top sales person was Heather Sparkman, selling $2,099 worth of nuts. Second place was earned by Derek Goodman, $1,664 worth of fruit and nuts; third place, Olivia Jones, $1,162; Taylor Osborne, fourth place with $986 in sales and fifth place sales person was Elwood Kenney, $983.

Named honorary members for 2016 were Scott and Darla Hardwick, Tara and David Snyder; Kristen Warren and Amy and Larry Wollett. Earning the Star Greenhand Award was Lesley Reed; Star Chapter Farmer: Marissa Hall; Most Outstanding Junior, Nathan Gardner; Most Outstanding Senior, Tiara Snyder; High Point Member, Snyder; and Reserve High Point Member: Lauren Hall.

Dan Ebert, with the Farm Association, presented a $500 scholarship to Nate Leland. Betty Brandum, Cardington FFA Alumni Association, awarded two stipends in the amount of $250 each to Lauren Hall and Johnny Levings and Molly McGinnis awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the McGinnis Family to Tiara Snyder. Special guests introduced were from the River Valley, Centerburg, Buckeye Valley, Highland and Big Walnut FFA Chapters. The Cardington FFA Chapter achieved the following awards this year: Top Ten Overall Chapter in the State of Ohio; State Gold Rated Chapter; Top Ten Chapter in Student Development and Top Ten Chapter in Community Development.

The 2015-2016 Officer team members are Tiara Snyder, president; Johnny Levings, vice president; Makenna McClure, secretary; Marissa Hall, assistant secretary; Nathan Gardner, treasurer; Alicia McElwee, assistant treasurer; Lauren Hall, reporter; Alison Ames, assistant reporter; Mac Warren, Sentinel; Daniel Kill, chaplain; Elizabeth Crum, student adviser;

and Krista Betti Junior High Agriculture Instructor.

The 2016-2017 officer team introduced included Derek Goodman, president; Warren, vice president; McClure, secretary; Katelyn Denney, assistant secretary; Nathan Gardner, treasurer; Libby McConnell, assistant treasurer; McElwee, reporter; Hall, assistant reporter; Austin Yake, Sentinel; Kyle Snyder, Chaplain and Kill, student advisor.
