Mount Gilead Senior, Ben Hayes successfully balanced sports, band and theater productions along with high academic achievement to round out his high school career.

He played baseball and basketball, participated in marching band, concert band and show choir.

In addition, Hayes served as a student council member and member of Key Club and National Honor Society.

MGHS Principal, Deb Clauss reported that the graduating senior was named an OHSAA Scholar Athlete, MOAC Scholar Athlete and is an Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete.

He received his four-year academic plaque and is the recipient of several scholarships including the John Phillip Sousa Music Award.

Hayes is the salutatorian of the Class of 2016 with a 4.07 GPA.

His plans to attend Marietta College with a major in petroleum engineering and a minor in geology.

Clauss also introduced Ben’s parents, Jodi and Doug Hayes.

Brad Ebersole of Consolidated Electric Cooperative presented Ben with the May student of the month award.

Consolidated Electric sponsors the student of the month award for all four school districts in Morrow County, as well as Gilead Christian School and the Tomorrow Center.
