URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE - NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CLEVELAND OH


356 AM EST THU JAN 2 2014


LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE ACROSS THE OHIO VALLEY LATER TODAY. SNOW WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH FROM THE WEST THIS AFTERNOON AS THE LOW MOVES EAST OF THE AREA. SOME LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS WILL LINGER ACROSS NORTHEAST OHIO AND NORTHWEST PENNSYLVANIA INTO FRIDAY.


IN ADDITION, NORTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE IN INTENSITY THIS AFTERNOON CAUSING BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS…SNOW WILL CONTINUE THIS MORNING AND TAPER OFF LATER THIS AFTERNOON. SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 4 TO 6 INCHES BY THIS EVENING.


* TIMING…SNOW WILL TAPER OFF FROM THE WEST THIS AFTERNOON.


* WINDS…NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 30 MPH.


* VISIBILITIES…HEAVIER SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES TO LESS THAN 1 MILE LATER TODAY.


* TEMPERATURES…WIND CHILLS WILL DROP BELOW ZERO AT TIMES ON THURSDAY.


* IMPACTS…EXPECT SNOW AND SNOW COVERED ROADS LATER TONIGHT AND THURSDAY. COLD TEMPERATURES WILL ALLOW SNOW TO EASILY STICK TO THE ROADWAYS. BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL REDUCE VISIBILITIES LATER TONIGHT AND THURSDAY.
