“Christmas is for Kids” was the 2013 theme for the Morrow County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Festival and Parade. Lots of kids and families braved the cold, sloppy weather to see Santa, get a cookie at the Community Center Open House, some presents at the Secret Santa, then finish the afternoon with a free movie.

The celebration began with the food drive that has been a tradition for Mayor Mike Porter for the past few years. This year he was glad the collection place moved from outside on the village square to inside the village offices. The food collected will go to food pantries in town.

The Morrow County Community Center held a beading class in the morning with Tara Lawyer at the Activity Center on South Main St. The class made bracelets or a necklace and earring set. Lawyer has been doing beading for more than 10 years and recently started teaching some classes.

Quite a few families stopped by the Community Center for a cookie and some hot chocolate after the parade. Visitors got to meet the new Community Center Personal Trainer, Eugene Ambler and tour the exercise facility.

Santa arrived at noon on a fire truck in the parade and stopped by Seniors on Center to greet children. At three o’clock the Capitol Theater opened its doors for a free showing of a movie for kids. The day concluded with a reception for the Children’s art show at Cellar Studios Ink.
