A Mt. Gilead youth was killed Sunday in an accidental shooting in the Edison area.
Morrow County Sheriff Steve Brenneman reports a call regarding a shooting on the railroad tracks near E. Vine St. came into the 911 Center about 11:50 a.m. Sunday, November 17, 2013.
Brenneman states Morrow County Sheriff’s deputies were first to arrive on the scene and located Trevor P. Clark, 15, of Mt. Gilead laying on the tracks with an apparent gunshot wound.
Deputies attempted to administer first aid but were unable to locate a pulse. Morrow County EMS personnel arriving on the scene were also unable to locate a pulse. Trevor was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office says it appears that Trevor and a 16-year-old male had planned on going hunting in the area. Trevor was carrying a shotgun and handed the shotgun to the other individual while walking on the railroad track. That individual shifted his grip on the weapon, accidentally firing it and striking Trevor in the left shoulder area.
An autopsy will be performed at the Licking County Coroner’s Office. The incident is still under investigation by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio BCI & I.
Mt. Gilead Schools Supt. Jeff Thompson made grief counseling available to students when they returned to classes. Thompson said students organized to wear blue on Monday to honor Trevor and had a group photo taken.
