Seniors on Center Board introduces new Director – honors Board members

Story and photos by Alberta Stojkovic

Seniors on Center Board honored longtime Board members June Hawk and Judy Mackey with a special luncheon and gifts at their December meeting.

Board President Linda Ruehrmund presented Hawk a parting gift for her ten years of service on the board and Judy Mackey for nine years as a board member. Ruehrmund thanked them for their dedication and many years of work and service above and beyond their usual board duties.

The board also recognized the new Seniors on Center Executive Director, Pam Eastep. Eastep started working at Seniors on Center 18 years ago as an executive assistant. She worked with Marlene Cooney who was Director at that time. She has worked on many programs for seniors over the years as well as dealing with many business aspects of the center.

Eastep said the thing she likes most about working for seniors is seeing how appreciative they are.

“They (the seniors) are so appreciative and thankful for the littlest thing you do for them,” Eastep said with a smile. “That makes working here very rewarding.”

Eastep also had many words of praise for both the board and staff of Seniors on Center. She said all are very supportive and encouraging in her new position. They’re also very willing to help in any way they can. Eastep is very glad she has completed her first big hurdle, which was preparing the annual budget. She is even happier that the board approved the 2014 budget with very little change.

Board Member Carl Schaefer expressed appreciation for Eastep’s abilities and experience. He said that she “already knows so much about the senior programs.” He added that she is also very compassionate.

“She always goes the extra mile and loves the people and the staff here,” Schaeffer observed.

Schaefer said that Eastep is both creative and resourceful. He is confident that those qualities will help the seniors’ board deal with any cuts in funding. He believes she will also always look for new ideas and directions for Seniors on Center.
