Sir or Madam:
On the news today, I learned that there is a school in California that has banned the wearing of tee shirts that display the American Flag during Cinco De Mayo, a Mexican Holiday commemorating the defeat of French forces by the Mexicans in the State of Puebla, Mexico, in 1862.
I know I’m Jurassic, but I believe that in the United States, where we have a Constitution, guaranteeing Freedom of Speech, the prominent displaying of Old Glory should not and CANNOT be prohibited.
I realize that the school contends that this ban is soley for the safety of the students and I might agree with it, except for the fact that it is the American Flag that we are talking about, not the Mexican flag.
If the school cannot guarantee the safety of the students, whether they are of Mexican Heritage or American, because these miscreants want to prevent these Patriotic Students from enjoying their free speech rights, guaranteed by our Constitution, perhaps instead of banning the American flag, they should ban Cinco De Mayo.
Just my Jurassic Opinion.
Thank you, Darl Mills, Mt. Gilead
