Pirate boys get league win at Ridgedale

Cardington rode a strong third quarter to a 74-56 win over host Ridgedale Saturday.


The Pirates led 18-11 after eight minutes of play and 32-26 at the half, but put the game away with a big third.


They outscored their hosts 21-10 over those eight minutes to move in front by 17. They finished the contest by outscoring the Rockets 21-20 in the final period.


Tyler Dornon led the Pirates with 20 points, while Mitch Yake added 15, Cole Hess scored 13, Mason Richardson had 12 and Mac Thompson picked up 11.


Northmor Knights


Northmor jumped out to a fast start at Lucas on Saturday and rode it to their first win of the year.


In their 73-60 victory, the Knights jumped out to a 19-8 lead after one period of play. Luckas trimmed two points off their deficit in the second period, but Northmor outscored them 16-13 in the third quarter and 20-19 in the fourth to claim the decision.


Daniel Donner scored 19 points to lead the Knights, while both Zach Neuman and James Donner added 12. Kyle Johnson finished with 11 and Zach Carroll added eight for the winners.


Highland Scots


Highland came back in the fourth quarter to snare a 56-51 win from Fredericktown in a Saturday home game.


The Scots led 17-5 after one quarter of play, but watched the Freddies jump in front 22-21 by the half.


Both teams scored nine points in the third quarter, but the Scots outscored Fredericktown 26-20 over the final eight minutes of play to finish on top.


Curtis Belcher led Highland with 19 points, while Jett Swetland added 18 and Ryan Burt finished with 11.


Mount Gilead Indians


Mount Gilead was unable to get untracked offensively until the fourth quarter on Saturday at home against Centerburg and suffered a 51-36 loss as a result.


The Trojans only led 11-7 after the first quarter of play, but outscored the Indians 11-5 in the second and 14-7 in the third to balloon their lead to a 36-19 margin.


While Mount Gilead took the fourth quarter by a 17-15 score, they would not be able to catch up to their guests.


Chris Godfrey scored 13 points to lead the Indians, while Xavier Harris added eight.
