Highland split a pair of weekend games, losing a battle for the Blue Division lead to Centerburg on Friday, but recovering to top River Valley the next night.

At the Trojans Friday, the Scots fell into an early hole and were not able to dig their way completely out of it in a 66-61 loss.

Centerburg jumped out to an 18-8 lead after the opening period, but Highland trimmed their deficit to a 33-26 margin by the half.

After both teams scored 14 in the third, Highland took the fourth by a 21-19 margin, but found themselves five points shy of Centerburg at the final buzzer.

Jett Swetland led Highland with 19 points, while Curtis Belcher scored 14, Nate Hilborn added 12 on four three-pointers and Ryan Burt finished with eight.

Their home game with River Valley on Saturday, a 62-59 win, went the opposite way.

Here, the Scots led 14-9 after the first quarter and 29-20 at the half before having to fight off the Vikings in the second half.

River Valley took the third period by a 19-13 margin before both teams scored 20 in the fourth to allow the home team to claim the win.

Belcher scored 19 to pace Highland, while Swetland scored 16 and Burt tallied 12.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead jumped out to a fast start at Horizon Science Academy on Friday and held on for a 39-25 non-league win.

The Indians led 17-0 after one quarter and 30-9 at the half in the contest. While they were outscored 16-9 over the final 16 minutes, they still finished with a double-digit win.

Xavier Harris finished with 17 of his team’s 39 points.

Northmor Knights

One night after losing to Cardington, Northmor nearly upended undefeated Pleasant before falling 76-69 at home in overtime.

On Saturday, the Knights took a 19-17 lead after the first quarter, which they increased to a 35-29 margin by the intermission.

Pleasant trimmed two points off their deficit in the third quarter and took the fourth by a 21-17 score to force an extra session.

There, they outscored the Knights 17-10 to escape with the win.

Daniel Donner hit four three-pointers on his way to 22 points, while James Donner added 17 on five long-range shots. Also, Gunnar Lilly tallied 15.

Gilead Christian Eagles

Lucas built a solid first-half lead against host Gilead Christian Saturday night and was able to take away a 55-38 win.

The road team took a 13-7 lead after the opening period and increased it to a 31-16 margin by the intermission.

Gilead Christian outscored their opponents 17-11 in the third to get within nine, but Lucas held them to five in the fourth to pull away for the double-digit win.

Derek Goodman led the Eagles with 15 points, while Nick Kerman added nine.
