It was a pair of wins for the Highland bowling teams last weekend.
The undefeated varsity boys kept their streak alive outscoring Cardington 2243-2207. Going into the baker games the Scots were ahead 1897-1858, but after Cardington’s first baker game of 186, the Scots found themselves up only nine pins. The outcome of the match was going to come down to the final baker game. The Scots pulled out the win shooting a 190 to Cardington’s 163. Devin Schoellkopf, a second-year sophomore, shot a 267. Schoellkopf rolled the first nine strikes in a row. When he went up for the 10th frame, he left a 10-pin. His two game high for the day was the highest for the team: 460. Also having notable scores on the day were: Isaiah Whitt: 216 and Will Schindley: 202 and 203.
The Lady Scots defeated Cardington 1495-1451. Their victory also came down to their last baker game. It was a match of ups and downs for both teams. After the first game-set Cardington was up by 62 pins, but after the second game-set the Lady Scots had come back to be ahead by 21 pins. The first baker game went to Cardington shooting a 141 to Highland’s 124. This cut the Lady Scots’ lead to only four pins. Highland clenched the win in the last baker game with a 146 to Cardington’s 106. Leading the ladies in their way to the win was four-year senior, Ashley Koob with a 146 and 158 for a 304 series and three-year senior, Cassie Brant with 136 and 135 for a 271.
Highland’s next divisional matchup with be Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. at Colonial City Lanes in Mount Vernon.
