The Mount Gilead State Park will host the annual Spring Festival on May 2, 3, and 4th.
Food, entertainment, and games will highlight the schedule which begins Friday evening, May 2 when hot dogs and marshmallows will be served at 7:30 pm. Optional events are a story and movie, weather permitting.
Early the next morning, Saturday, May 3, there will be a fund raising breakfast served from 7;30 to 10 am in Shelter House #1. From 11 am to 6 pm, the Nature Center will be open and in observance of the state’s annual Free Fishing day, there will be free fishing poles for fishing all day.
Games will be offered at the Nature Center from 11am to noon and at 11:30 am stand up bingo will be played at Shelter House #1 with a lap quilt to be given away.
From noon to 1:30 pm the Spangler Sisters and the Country Travelers will entertain at Shelter House #1.
Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served from noon to 2 pm and at 1 pm, the cooking of the vegetable soup in the big kettle will begin. Anyone who wants to donate can bring canned vegetables in for the soup no later than 2 pm.
Also at 1 pm, the Wildflower walk and tasting party will take place at the Nature Center. Stand Up bingo will be played again at 1:30 pm with another lap quilt to be awarded.
From 2:30 to 3:30 pm, the Golden Buckeye Band will play and from 4 to 5 pm the Primrose Bell Choir from Marion will perform.
The soup will be ready at 5 pm and from 5 to 7 pm, the Hickory Wind Band will be playing, followed by Stand Up Bingo at 6 pm.
A movie with popcorn will wind down the day at 7 pm, weather permitting and also a show of interest.
On Sunday morning, a breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10 am. And the Nature Center will be open from 11am to 3 pm. Another wild flower walk and tasting party will also be held.
All events are on a donation basis and all donations stay at the Mount Gilead State Park and are used for park improvements, play ground equipment and the festivals hosted by the Volunteers of the Park (VOP’s) and the park staff.
The next festival will be Taste of Country on July 18, 19, and 20.
