60 years ago, May 6, 1954:

Pictured were the Cardington Vo-Ag teacher, Lawton McClintock and David Burggraf, Cardington High School senior, who had been awarded a scholarship from the Morrow Rural Electric Co Op. Also pictured was Paul Furniss, Johnsville school superintendent with Jane Crunkitlon, Johnsville High School senior, who was also awarded a scholarship from Morrow Rural Electric Co Op.


St. Paul Lutheran Church was conducting a drive to raise $39,000 to complete the fund for a new church building.


The engagement of Forrest Skinner (CHS Class of 1947) and Jerrold Fritz of Banger, Pa was announced. Also announced was the engagement of Shirley Klingel of Waldo to Kenneth Ackerman of Cardington.


Mary Lou McCutchen was honored on her sixth birthday with a party at her home. Friends attending were Janice and Janet Maxwell, Julie McAlister, Pamela McClintock, Carolyn Cook, Carol Rhineberger and Beth Ann McCutchen.


Carol Rhineberger was honored on her sixth birthday with a party at her home- guests were Janet Brody, Nancy Rinehart, Carolyn Cook, Janet and Janice Maxwell, Julie McAlister, Mary Lou McCutchen, Pamela McClintock, Vickie Hardman, Linda Lou Bowers and Carol and Brenda Rhineberger.


Four Cardington High School juniosr headed up the Morrow County Honor Society; They were Dean Curl, president; Dale Shaffer, vice president; Ann Thompson, secretary and Margaret Byrd, treasurer.


Linda McElroy was to be crowned the 1954 CHS May Queen by Joyce Underwood, 1953 queen.


Attendants were Marlene Fricke, Helen Ziegler, Ginger Davis, Jeanene Heacock, Lacretia McClish, Dolores Lawrence, Emily Reed, Dorena Ruehrmund, Carol Betts and Doris Schorr.


Flower girls were Linda Brake, Connie McGraw, Linda Snyder and Karen Bender. Billy Benedict was the crown bearer. A Mother’s Day tribute was to be given by a girls’ trio composed of Dottie Haycook, Eilene Reed and Norita Fricke.


30 years ago, May 10, 1984

Celebrating their golden wedding anniversaries were Mr and Mrs Paul Henry, County Road 24 Cardington and Mr. And Mrs. Ralph Rengert of County Road 146, Cardington Mr. And Mrs. Virgil Shaw, Cardington residents who were residing in Florida, were celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary and Mt. And Mrs. Dwight McClarren of Mount Gilead, were celebrating their 40th anniversary.


Robert C. Chapman had retired after serving 18 yeas as Mount Gilead postmaster. He had been in the postal service for 38 years, beginning service in May, 1949 as a janitor in the Mount Gilead office. For 12 years he was city carrier, beginning in 1954.


Ashley village became the third village north of Delaware to install crossing gates. Earlier Cardington and Edison had installed them at the railroad crossings in their villages.


Clara McClenathan, primary school librarian, was spotlighted as the Cardington School employee of the week.
