Handlebar Ranch & Sons of Buckhaven are hosting a 3-D Archery Shoot on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 8 a.m. until ? at the Handlebar Ranch located at 6695 County Road 76. (Home Road)

Proceeds from the archery shoot are to benefit the Buckhaven Learning Center “Combat Injured Veterans” “Whitetails for Warriors” which is an all-expense paid Ohio Combat Injured Veteran Archery Deer hunt held on October 15 through the 18, 2014 in Loudonville, Ohio.

The cost is $13.00 per shooter. Food and drink will be available. The course is handicap accessible.

“So many of our service men and women present and past have been injured while serving to protect and defend our Great United States of America,” explained Willie Costello, Buckhaven board member. “Many of them are suffering from traumatic brain injuries, amputations, and severe burns. We give twelve disabled Veterans the opportunity to harvest Whitetail Deer. It also provides many opportunities and possibilities for our hunters to develop a special bond with one another and the community. We take care of their food, lodging, license, deer tag, snacks, butchering fees etc. We can accommodate any of their dietary needs and special needs that they may have.”

“It is all about family, community and veterans,” said Willie’s wife Cindy.

None of the officers, board of directors, or volunteers is compensated for their time and devotion to Buckhaven.

The fundraising goal this year is $6000.

“I would be thrilled if we could raise $10,000,” said Costello.

Morrow County Veterans Association will be doing the opening ceremony.

There will also be archery tag just for fun. There will be raffles, prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Tickets for a new Bear Domain bow will be sold until the day of the shoot. Tickets for a new bear Apprentice bow will be sold the day of the shoot only. Both bows will be given away the day of the shoot at 3:00 p.m.

Over 20 members of the Handlebar Ranch Archery Club spent a work day recently at the Handlebar Ranch cleaning the trails. They expressed their excitement about the event and their hope that people will come for the food and fun in support of the event even if they have never shot a bow before.
