There are three educational opportunities related to farm and agribusiness management in the month of February available to Morrow County residents.


Estate Planning & Business Succession Seminar


On February 4, 2014, at 7:00 pm there is an “Estate Planning & Business Succession Seminar” at the Cardinal Center, Central Entry Building. This program is sponsored by Ag Credit, Wright Law Co. LPA and Ohio State University Extension.


Robert Moore, agricultural law attorney, will be presenting a seminar on Estate Planning & Business Succession. The seminar will cover the Affordable Care Act effect on farmers, Liability management, the need for Power of Attorneys, Trusts and LLC’s, and Strategies to keep farmland in the family.

Crop Outlook & Crop Insurance Meeting


On February 12, 2014 at the Handlebar Ranch there will be a “Crop Outlook and Crop Insurance” meeting. Speakers include the Thomas Milligan Insurance Agency, providing an overview of crop insurance in 2014 and Barry Ward, OSU Leader of Production Business Management, looking at potential crop profitability, land values, cash rents and crop inputs in 2014.


Ag Credit, the Thomas Milligan Insurance Agency, and Ohio State University Extension are the sponsors. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. and the meeting will conclude with lunch.

Transferring the Farm to Heirs


On February 28 , 2014 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm a Transferring the Farm to Heirs seminar will be presented at All Occasions Catering in Waldo.


The following Farm Estate Planning issues will be discussed: The effect of the New Estate Tax Laws on the Farm Estate Settlement Cost; Distribution options for Heirs; Options for Farm Heirs to purchase Farm Assets; Ways to protect assets from Long Term Care Issues; Advantages of Revocable Living Trusts and Irrevocable Living Trusts.


Richard K Shirer, from Shirer Benefit Services and Farm Estate Tax Attorney, Douglas R Jackson will be resourcing the seminar. There is an $11.00 fee for lunch. Call the Delaware County Extension Office to register at (740) 833-2030.
