The locally based NWCO Steam Basketball Program recently concluded a tremendous spring and summer 2014! The sixth grade Steam captured five championships and six runners-up positions in 13 total tournaments. Moreover, the team took third place in the Midwest National from July 20-23 in Ft. Wayne, Ind.; the team gave the champion Gym Rats of Indiana its only loss in the national event. Teams hailed from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, etc. The team sported a record of 51-15, playing up at times.
Sixth grade team members include Alijah Arnold, Mitch Myers, Jordyn Jury and Ried Jury of Marion; Brian Collier and Braxton Reed of Pleasant; Cayman Spires and Ty Landon of Cardington; Evan Young of Upper Sandusky; Brandon Levering of River Valley; Mitch Nielsen of Tiffin Calvert; Jacob Siesel of Seneca East; Harley Day of North Union; and Darren Drake of Delaware. The team is coached by Mike Myers, Adam Levering and Roger Jury.
The Steam Program is expanding to both boys and girls teams in grades 3-4 to 8-9 for spring/summer 2015 action. The program runs drills throughout the year and plays in both fall and winter leagues as well.
