Pirates fight past Mount Gilead for league win

20 hours ago | | | Email

By ROB HAMILTONMCSSports@civitasmedia.comIn a close-fought game, oftentimes the winner is determined by which team was able to catch the most breaks on close plays. Cardington succeeded at that when they took a 21-7 win at Mount Gilead Friday night. The Pirates broke a 7-7 halftime tie with a touchdown late in the third quarter and then tallied a final touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to give them some breathing room.“They were big and quick,” said first-year Pirate coach Jerry Williams of the Indians. “We knew they were a good offensive team. We just wanted to contain them. You need those breaks without a doubt — it’s not luck, it’s being in the right places at the right time.”
