Highland jumped out to a huge early lead at Elgin on Friday and wound up winning by a 49-8 margin.

The Scots tallied four touchdowns in the opening period to set the stage for their win. Max Schreiber opened the game with a touchdown pass of 26 yards to Dylan Tuggle and followed up with a 41-yard scoring throw to Jack Weaver. Jared Limings then scored on runs of 12 and 14 yards to stake the team to a 28-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Limings scored again on a 35-yard run. Cam Catrone followed with a 19-yard touchdown run. Highland’s final score came in the third quarter on a 76-yard return by William Parsley, while Elgin scored their only points on a touchdown and two-point conversion in the final seconds of the game. Satchel Denton added successful PAT kicks after every Scot score.

Limings led the team’s ground attack with 97 yards, while Weaver added 49. Schreiber completed his only pass attempts on the night — both for touchdowns.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead led after three quarters at Fredericktown, but the Freddies scored in the fourth to take the game to overtime and then won in the extra session by a 35-28 margin.

After the Freddies staked themselves to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter, Mount Gilead got on the board with a 14-yard touchdown run by Jonah Barnett. They would then tie the game on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Bland to Mason Mollohan.

MG took the lead in the third period on a three-yard run by Barnett. After the Freddies tied the score at 21, Barnett struck again, this time on a 73-yard scoring run. However, that lead would not hold up, as the Indians fell to 2-3, 0-2 in league play.

Barnett had another huge game for MG, running for 287 yards and three scores. Bland completed three passes (Mollohan’s touchdown and two to Seth Young) for 37 yards and ran for 63 more. Scott Page was 4-for-4 on extra point attempts.

Northmor Knights

Northmor struggled offensively in a 28-6 loss to East Knox on Friday.

The Knights trailed 14-0 after the first quarter. After getting a scoring pass from Jordan Wiseman in the second quarter, they would not be able to get back on the scoreboard in the road league contest.

Turnovers proved to be Northmor’s doom, as they lost the ball to the Bulldogs six times, allowing their opponents to win despite being held to 138 yards. One of their touchdowns was on a fumble return and another came via a kickoff return. For the Knights, Wiseman threw for 203 yards in the game.
