Local athletes and coaches dominated the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference’s awards night for fall sports.

Mount Gilead swept the boys’ cross country awards, with Austin Hallabrin being named Athlete of the Year and Dennis West being named Coach of the Year. In boys’ golf, Austin Yake of Cardington was the Athlete of the Year, while Mike Barron of Mount Gilead took the honors for Coach of the Year.

For football, Mount Gilead’s Jonah Barnett was named Athlete of the Year and Highland’s Chad Carpenter earned Coach of the Year honors. Highland took both honors in volleyball, with Ashton Terrill being named Athlete of the Year and Rob Terrill receiving Coach of the Year. Northmor’s Mark Yaussy was named Coach of the Year in girls’ cross country, while Emily Schworm of East Knox was named top athlete.

Also, Lucy Schmitt of Buckeye Valley (athlete) and Riley Gruenbaum of Jonathan Alder (coach) were recognized in girls’ soccer and Logan Thompson of Pleasant (athlete) and David Landa of Jonathan Alder (coach) were the picks in boys’ soccer.

All-Ohio Football

Mount Gilead’s Jonah Barnett was named to the first-team offense in Division V football this year, while teammate Danny Williamson was picked to the second team and Tyler Bland received special mention.

In Division VI, Cardington’s Devin Pearl was a first-team offensive pick. Luke McCarrell was named to the second team and Daniel Kill earned special mention.

For Highland, competing in Division IV, Jared Limings was a second-team offensive pick and Zach Baker was tabbed as special mention.
