Local boys teams see Saturday action


Northmor needed to stage a late comeback to stay perfect in the league when they traveled to Fredericktown on Saturday.

After both teams scored 14 in the first quarter, the Freddies took the second 12-10 and the third by a 16-14 margin to lead 42-38 going into the fourth. Northmor came alive over that period, though, outscoring their hosts 25-11 to win 63-53.

Demetrius Johnson scored 18 to lead Northmor, while Brock Pletcher added 16 and Tyler Kegley tallied 12.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead picked up another league win on Saturday when they hosted East Knox and walked away with a 57-48 victory.

The Indians led 17-12 after the first period and maintained a five-point lead into the half. They would increase their advantage to a 42-32 margin with eight minutes to play and were able to hold on to win by nine.

Tyler Bland led MG with 17 points. Both Austin Vanderkooi and Mason Mollohan picked up 11 in the win.

Highland Scots

Highland bounced back on Saturday when they played Elgin. The Scots outscored their opponents in each of the first three quarters on their way to a 45-32 win.

Highland led 11-5 after the opening quarter and increased that advantage to 24-13 at the half and 35-19 after three periods of play. While they were outscored 13-10 in the fourth, they were able to still win by double digits.

Alex Mason scored 16 points to lead all scorers. Max Schreiber added eight in the game.

Cardington Pirates

Cardington suffered their second straight league loss on Saturday when they visited Centerburg. The final score was 59-53.

The Trojans jumped out to a 15-8 lead after the opening period, but Cardington recovered to take a 29-28 lead into the locker room at halftime. Unfortunately for the Pirates, their opponents took the third quarter 16-11 and the fourth by a 15-13 margin to finish on top in the game.

Devin Pearl hit three three-pointers on his way to finishing the game with 26 points for the Pirates. Garrett Wagner added four threes for 12 points and Derek Goodman added eight.
