On Friday, Cardington couldn’t hold onto an early lead in falling to Elgin by a 49-40 margin at home to suffer their first league loss.

The Pirates led 14-6 after the first quarter, but Elgin battled back to tie things up at 19 by halftime. The Comets then outscored Cardington 20-12 in the third quarter and 10-9 in the fourth to pull away for the win.

Sage Brannon scored 10 to lead Cardington and Kynlee Edwards added eight.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead lost to Fredericktown 58-33 Friday, but were able to rebound on Saturday to top Crestline by a 46-37 margin.

In that game, Baylee Hack tallied 23 points to lead the team, while Madison Fitzpatrick added 11. The Indians trailed 19-18 at the half, but outscored their opponents 13-6 in the third to take the lead and then took the fourth 15-12 to grab the win.

Highland Scots

Highland fell to visiting Buckeye Valley on Saturday by a 52-33 margin.

The Barons led 15-8 after the opening period and 30-16 at the half. They would go on to outscore the Scots 22-17 in the second half to maintain their double-digit lead.
