Cardington Pirates

Cardington softball beat East Knox by a 12-0 margin on Wednesday, getting a one-hitter from Savannah Chalfant in the five-inning game.

After the Bulldogs got their first two runners of the game on base due to a dropped third strike and a walk, Chalfant settled in and induced two pop-ups and a strikeout.

It then wouldn’t take long for the Pirates to strike, as Samantha Brininger hit a sharp single to right field, Dakota Crum followed with a single into left and Alyson Adams walked. A groundout by Brooklyn Whitt scored Brininger, while Rylie Partlow bunted Crum home. Allie Moore walked and Adams scored on a double steal. Chalfant then singled in Moore to put Cardington up 4-0.

After Chalfant struck out the side in the second, the Pirates added two more runs. Brininger tripled to open the frame and would score on a Crum groundout. Adams then tripled and scored on a Whitt sacrifice fly. After another scoreless top of the inning, the Pirates put up another five runs, getting a two-run single from Adams, a two-run triple by Whitt and an RBI single from Partlow. The team would score its final run after Brininger walked, got moved to second by Crum and scored on an Adams’ single.

Chalfant finished with 13 strikeouts and also had three hits, as did Adams. Brininger added two hits in the game, as the Pirates improved to 12-0, 7-0 in league play.
