After Wednesday’s Division III district track session at Whitehall-Yearling, both boys and girls had six events in the books, as well as preliminary heats in several others.

The meet, which is divided into two districts, contested the field events in District One and the 3200-meter relay and running prelims in District Two.

Northmor’s boys currently hold the lead in District One with 51 points, while Mount Gilead is fourth with 21 and Cardington is tied for 11th with two.

The Knights won a pair of field events Wednesday to assist them in taking their early lead. Demetrius Johnson won the long jump with an effort of 20’9.5”, while James Walker took the high jump by clearing 5’10”.

Three more Northmor athletes advanced to regionals, as Kolton Smith was second in the high jump with a leap of 5’9”, Nathan Bird took third in the discus with a throw of 121’ and Aaron Vitte cleared 11’3” to place fourth in the pole vault.

Also, Josh Caudill was fifth in the shot put and Aaron Berg took seventh in the pole vault.

For Mount Gilead, Kyle Ciballi was fifth in the pole vault, while Colten Clark took eighth. In the long jump, Deondre Cook was seventh and Brandon Stevens was eighth, while Kyle Blanton took sixth in the high jump.

Cardington’s Jarrod Fair placed eighth in both the shot put and discus.

In girls’ action, in District Two, the 3200-relay finals were run, with Mount Gilead placing first. The quartet of Micah James, Hannah Bush, Jenna Shipman and Darcy Picker won in 9:49.53.

Northmor was fourth in the same race, with Maria Lee, Reanne McDonald, Samantha Peters and Rachel Morrison finishing in 10:17.71.

Currently in the meet, Mount Gilead leads with 42 points, while Cardington is second with 32 and Northmor is fifth with 23.

Division II District Meet

Two Highland girls advanced to the Division II regional meet in field events.

Taylor Belcher finished second in the high jump by clearing 5’, while Lydia Morgan was fourth in the discus with an effort of 100’7”.
