ABSENTEE VOTING BEGINS – Recognizing the importance of having an engaged and educated electorate, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted Monday reminded voters that absentee voting begins Tuesday for the November 3, 2015 General Election. Over the course of the next four weeks, voters will be able to vote from home by mail 24/7 and have more than 200 hours to vote early in person.
Secretary Husted today also announced the launch of an online resource for the three statewide issues appearing on the November ballot. Accessible via MyOhioVote.com and here, voters can view an educational video, ballot language, explanations and arguments for and against each issue. This webpage also provides easy access to websites for proponents and opponents of each issue if available.
“The state issues voters are being asked to consider in this election will have a dramatic and lasting impact on Ohio’s Constitution if passed,” Secretary Husted said. “It is very important that every voter know exactly what they are voting on and how it will change our state.”
FREE MISSING LIFE INSURANCE POLICY SEARCH SERVICE PUSHED – Ohio Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor wants Ohioans to know that the Ohio Department of Insurance provides a free search service that can help locate missing life insurance policies or annuity contracts left behind by loved ones that have passed away.
The department has located more than 1,200 missing policies in the state for Ohioans since the search service was implemented in 2009.
“We are focused on protecting insurance consumers and providing services that produce real results for Ohioans,” said Taylor, also director of the Ohio Department of Insurance. “This search service eliminates the confusion of trying to locate missing life insurance policies or annuity contracts and helps get those benefits to the intended beneficiary.”
The department sends search requests and supporting documentation to all Ohio-licensed life insurance companies to be reviewed. An insurance company must process a policy and/or contract if they have information about a life insurance policy or annuity contract on the deceased person’s life. The insurance company will contact the beneficiary if money is to be paid to them.
Executors, legal representatives, or members of the deceased person’s immediate family can initiate a search request by obtaining the necessary form at www.insurance.ohio.gov in the Consumer Affairs section – or by calling 800-686-1526 for assistance. The completed form must be notarized and mailed with a certified death certificate to the department.
