MG boys open XC season with win at Upper

Mount Gilead’s boys’ cross country team cruised to a win in Tuesday’s Upper Sandusky Ice Breaker Invitational, scoring 17 points to dominate a 13-team field.

The Indians took five of the first six places in the race, with Will Baker winning in 15:15.99, Owen Hershner placing second in 16:44.51 and Tommy Emberg running third in 17:05.88. Henry Bartlett placed fifth in 17:33.53 and Nolan Hershner claimed sixth in 17:38.15. Gage Bowersmith (14th, 18:14.27) and Ethan Turner (16th, 18:26.66) rounded out the team’s top seven.

Also, Rowan Shaw was 18th, Ryan Swalley was 20th, Chace Staats was 25th, Cade Lewis was 28th, Brycen Gabriel was 29th, Abram Newson was 31st, Kasen Wallace was 37th, Grayson Smith was 52nd, Jon Miller was 53rd, Elias Bulkowski was 55th, Blake Staats was 65th, Tyler Miller was 68th, Marshall Hand was 74th, Tiger Carmon was 75th and Max Bulkowski was 93rd.

The girls’ team added a strong performance, coming in fourth out of 12 teams.

Kimberly Staley led the way by running ninth in 20:20.78, while Gwen Hershner took 11th in 20:38.23, Adriana Hershner was 37th in 23:04.88 and Haley Pfeifer ran 39th in 23:12.73. Danielle Pohlkotte claimed 41st in 23:19.03 and Sophie Mosher finished 51st in 24:06.17. Natalie Jagger placed 53rd in 24:17.05 to round out the top seven.

Also, Baylee Snyder was 75th, Brooke Jagger was 95th and Taylor McCarty was 105th.

Gilead Christian Inv.

Gilead Christian held its Fun at the Farm Invitational on Tuesday, with Wooster Christian also participating.

In the boys’ meet, which the Wooster school won by virtue of possessing a full team, Gilead Christian’s Nathan Bossard claimed first place with a time of 21:14.72. Jackson Keller was fifth in 23:50.27, while Maxwell Keller took 10th in 27:59.32.

Neither school had a full team in the girls’ meet. GC’s Seraiah Campbell won the race in 23:01.06, while Aryanna Green took second in 26:37.7.
