Northmor dominant against South Central

A dominant first half led Northmor past South Central in a Friday night road football game.

The Golden Knights got three touchdowns in the first quarter and added four more in the second to jump out to a 49-0 halftime lead over their opponents and maintained that score through the second half to start their season 2-0.

In the opening period, both Carson Campbell and Cowin Becker recorded rushing touchdowns, while A.J. Bower connected with Will Naylor for a 17-yard score.

After Bower opened the second period with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Bo Landin, Campbell added three more scores, running the ball into the end zone from one, 47 and 19 yards to finish with a four-touchdown day. Bower also was perfect on all seven of his extra point kicks.

Bower completed 6-of-7 passes for 81 yards, while Tanner Miley added one completion in two tries for 21. Naylor had three catches for 36 yards and Landin added two for 36. On the ground, Campbell ran for 79 yards and Becker added 58.

Highland Scots

Competing against last year’s Division VII state runner-up Dalton, Highland fell in football by a 48-26 margin Friday night.

Playing on the road, the Scots fell into a 14-6 hole by the end of the first quarter after giving up a score on the game’s opening kickoff and were down 27-13 at the half and 40-19 after three quarters of action.

Kolton Stover connected on touchdown passes to Kort Sears, Branson Newsome and Cooper Young in the game. Overall, he connected on 20-of-25 passes for 329 yards. Sears picked up four of those receptions for 85 yards. The team also ran for 126 yards in the game, with Kane Stover rushing for 38 and a score. Zach Church added his second interception of the season on defense.

Cardington Pirates

Cardington struggled on the road to keep Mohawk off the scoreboard in suffering a 54-6 loss on Friday.

The Pirates trailed 13-0 after the first quarter, but were able to cut that deficit to seven points after getting a rushing touchdown by Journey Williamson. However, their opponents would erupt for 28 straight points to end the half with a 41-6 advantage and would then get two more scores in the second half.

Wyatt Denney ran for 61 yards in the game, while Williamson hit on two passes for 47 yards. Warren Garrison had one of those receptions for 38 of that total.
