Highland, Cardington, Northmor win league VB matches Tuesday

Highland had very little trouble in sweeping visiting Clear Fork in volleyball on Tuesday night to improve to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in MOAC play.

In the conference match, the Scots won by scores of 25-7, 25-6 and 25-9. Kameron Stover picked up 18 kills and five aces for Highland. Larsen Terrill contributed 30 assists, eight kills and three aces. Also, Reagan Maibach added 11 kills and Jossalyn Varney tallied nine aces.

Cardington Pirates

The Cardington volleyball team earned its first win of the year at home against East Knox in five sets.

After dropping the first one 25-14, they bounced back to take the second 25-21. The Bulldogs would take the third 25-17 to go up 2-1, but Cardington rallied to claim 25-21 and 15-6 decisions in the final two sets to battle back for the win.

Lundyn Blevins recorded 13 kills, five aces and nine digs in the contest. Celia Hall had 10 kills and Madison Caulkins picked up eight to go with six blocks. Hall also had three aces and six digs, while Rylee Donkin had 15 digs. Also, Alexis Longsdorf had 23 assists.

On Wednesday, the Lady Pirates suffered a three-set loss to Worthington Christian by scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-19.

Hall finished with five kills and five digs, while Blevins added four, as well as five digs. Donkin contributed three aces and 12 digs. Caulkins had two blocks and Longsdorf tallied 13 assists.

Northmor Golden Knights

Northmor bounced back from a first-set loss to claim a 3-1 home win over Danville in volleyball Tuesday.

The Golden Knights picked up the win by scores of 14-25, 25-16, 25-18 and 25-17. Both Hannah James and Maddie See tallied seven kills in the contest, with Layla Castle adding six. Mary Dean picked up three aces and Makayla Sutton also had two. Lizzie Erlsten recorded 17 digs and 27 assists. Also, Briez Abrams recorded two blocks, Maya Trainer finished with 13 digs and Kallie Wright had nine digs.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead suffered a setback at Fredericktown in volleyball on Tuesday.

The Freddies won the match in three sets by scores of 25-6, 25-10 and 25-11. Cassady Irwin had four blocks in the contest. Both Olivia Long and Kylee Whipple picked up five digs.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the team was edged in five sets by visiting Granville Christian Academy. Scores were 25-14, 25-23, 26-28, 26-28 and 13-15.

Irwin had 14 aces in the match, while Abby Leonhard added 11 and both Long and Lindsey Ayers tallied 10. Leonhard and Faith White both had four aces and Irwin added three. Irwin also had a pair of blocks, as did Brooklyn White. Faith White added 18 digs and 21 assists and Katie Oliver had 15 digs and 12 assists. Whipple had 18 digs, Ayers had 17 and Long finished with 12.
