Highland forces six turnovers in win

A big second quarter led Highland to a 28-9 win on the road against Marion Harding.

After there was no score in the opening period, the Scots raced out to a 21-7 lead in the second quarter. Harding would trim two points off their deficit in the third quarter, but a fourth-quarter touchdown by Highland provided the final 19-point margin in the contest.

The Scot defense had a big night, forcing six turnovers, including two interceptions by Sam Hernandez and one by Dylan Wiggand, as well as three Kane Stover fumble recoveries. Kolton Stover threw for 275 yards on 13-of-30 passing. He threw touchdown passes to Zach Church and Kadyn Reichenbach, with Church tallying seven catches for 76 yards in the game and Reichenbach’s catch going for 53 yards. Kort Sears added 130 yards on two catches, while Church ran for 32 yards and a touchdown, Kolton Stover had 34 rushing yards and Hernandez also contributed 33 yards on the ground.

Mount Gilead Indians

Mount Gilead suffered a narrow 14-12 loss at Fredericktown on Friday.

All the scoring was done in the second quarter with the Indians scoring on short runs by Cam Vickers. The difference in the game was a successful two-point conversion by the Freddies on their second score, as neither team had been able to convert on their attempts to record PATs previously.

The Indians got 113 yards from Vickers, while Carson Trainer ran for 57, Carson Barnum added 52 and Eliot Jones finished with 35. Wyatt Long completed 4-of-8 passes for 57 yards with Trainer recording 32 yards on two catches.

“Once again, our boys came out and played their hearts out,” said head coach Mike Reid. “We gave up a couple big plays and we hurt ourselves with some untimely penalties which stopped some drives deep in their territory. We will get those things fixed. We have great kids. They really want to win.”

Cardington Pirates

East Knox picked up a 49-22 win over Cardington Friday night.

The Pirates got two touchdowns from Kalin Briggs in the contest. He scored on an 86-yard kick return and also added a receiving touchdown. Wyatt Denney ran for the team’s other touchdown.

Denney finished with 160 yards in the game to pace the Pirate offense. Journey Williamson hit on 4-of-10 passes for 29 yards, with both Denton Garrison and Briggs recording two receptions.
