Morrow County Democrats with Independents and several Republicans came together Oct. 2 to celebrate the “Grand Opening” of the Morrow County Democratic Headquarters at 217 West Main St. in Cardington.

Speaking to the crowd of about 50 was Tamie Wilson, candidate for U.S. House of Representatives as the representative for Ohio’s 4th Congressional District, which has been held by Jim Jordan for the past 17 years. She pointed out that Jordan has done very little to benefit the district.

Wilson attended Otterbein University and is a small business owner. She stressed the importance of working to bring jobs to the district, so people don’t have to drive an hour to make a livable wage. She supports “common sense legislation” for reducing domestic violence and terrorism, for mass shootings and cyber security.

State Board of Education District 7 candidate Rhonda Johnson spoke about the importance of having an educator on the state school board. She is a retired teacher and an advocate for teachers. Johnson was director of education for the City of Columbus and worked on improving early childhood education for prekindergarten. She said there is a need to have more teachers and to start early encouraging education as a career option. Having quality of teachers is something Johnson said is an important task for the state school board.

The celebration concluded with those in attendance enjoying snacks and cake. Democratic Central Committee Chairman Susan Grundy invited anyone interested to come to the headquarters to help with calling, postcard writing or for information about issues and candidates.

The Democrat headquarters are open Monday through Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
