Highland VB earns MOAC championship

The Highland volleyball team earned its 12th straight league championship on Tuesday when they topped visiting Ontario by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-18.

The Scots (17-5, 12-2 in MOAC play), finished in a tie for first place with Shelby. It had been a three-way tie, but the Whippets topped Pleasant on Tuesday to knock the Spartans out of that tie. It was also Senior Night for the Scots, who honored Logan Bradley, Faith Gantz, Mia Stanco, Kameron Stover and Larsen Terrill that evening.

Bradley finished with nine kills and four aces in the match, while Stanco added five kills and four aces. Addie Mullins had six aces and four kills, Reagan Maibach finished with 12 kills, Kendal Kline tallied five kills and 29 assists and Makaylee Merckling had 12 digs.

Northmor Golden Knights

Northmor picked up a three-set win at home against Elgin on Monday by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-23.

Both Madi Abrams and Lizzie Erlsten recorded eight kills in the match, with Erlsten adding two blocks, 13 digs and 18 assists. Briez Adams tallied six kills, while Makayla Sutton finished with four aces. Kallie Wright had six aces and 12 digs and Mary Dean contributed 11 digs.

On Tuesday, Northmor claimed the first set at home against Centerburg by a 28-26 score, but the Trojans came back to earn wins of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-11 in the next three sets to win the match.

Erlsten contributed 15 digs and 19 assists to the Golden Knight effort, while Madi Abrams and Hannah James both had five kills in the match. Maya Trainer picked up three aces and Wright had 16 digs.

Cardington Pirates

The Cardington volleyball team lost at home to Fredericktown in a KMAC contest on Tuesday.

The scores of the encounter were 9-25, 9-25 and 12-25.
