Selover Public Library in Chesterville held its monthly “Officially Speaking” event on Sept. 25. State Representative Riordan McClain joined a group of local residents to enjoy some light refreshments and to talk about himself and his role as the state representative for Ohio District 87, which includes Wyandot, Crawford, and Morrow counties.

McClain reviewed his family, education, and business background, and how he was selected to fill the District 87 seat when it became vacant. He also highlighted his role as a member of the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood, which is part of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and seeks to strengthen vulnerable Ohio families by funding community-based programs that serve low-income fathers.

McClain addressed a number of other topics with the attendees, including young people’s preparation for roles in government, education and school vouchers, and immigration challenges in Ohio. McClain emphasized his belief that solid family structures, especially the role of fathers, are a foundation for addressing a variety of other issues in today’s society.

Selover Library’s final “Officially Speaking” event for 2024 will be with Municipal Court Judge Jenifer Burnaugh on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. Monthly events will resume on the fourth Wednesday of the month in January 2025.
