The Nursing Honor Guard at Ohio’s Hospice of Morrow County recognizes patients who have dedicated their lives to the nursing profession. The Nursing Honor Guard provides Ohio’s Hospice of Morrow County the opportunity to show appreciation to fellow nurses who have dedicated their lives to caring for the sick and disabled.

We are privileged to pay tribute to Sue Gliem. Sue graduated in 1943 from Massillon City Hospital School of Nursing. During her career, she was a school nurse, camp nurse, a traveling nurse in Florida and New York, and she worked in obstetrics.

Gliem is 100 years old and currently resides at Morrow Manor. We pay tribute to former nurses, like Gliem, who, through their selfless giving and compassion, have helped to make nursing what it is today.

The Nursing Honor Guard is proud to acknowledge these former nurses and express our gratitude for their years of service. During the Nursing Honor Guard ceremony, active and retired nurses from Hospice of Central Ohio dress in the traditional blue nursing cape, white uniforms and caps, and highlight the nurse’s career and defining moments.

The ceremony includes the recitation of the Florence Nightingale pledge, the presentation of a lamp pen, and a lantern with a candle and a white flower. The lantern symbolizes the courage and comfort these recipients have modeled throughout their career and lights the way to modern, professional nursing.
