Northmor wins big over East Knox

The Northmor football team improved to 7-0, 4-0 in league play, in impressive fashion at East Knox on Friday, shutting out their hosts in picking up a 42-0 victory.

The Golden Knights got their first score in the opening period on a 51-yard pass from A.J. Bower to Jax Wenger. Bower would hook up with Cowin Becker in the second quarter for a 42-yard touchdown pass and Carson Campbell would then add touchdown runs of 10 and three yards to stake Northmor to a 28-0 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Bower would hit Wenger for two more touchdowns of 59 and 25 yards to add to the Northmor lead.

The Golden Knights held a 439-187 advantage in total yards. Bower completed all 13 of his pass attempts for 341 yards and four scores, with Wenger catching seven passes for 203 of that total and Bo Landin adding three catches for 85 yards. Campbell ran for 61 yards, while Becker added 37 on the ground and 42 through the air.

Cardington Pirates

Cardington held an 8-6 lead over visiting Danville after the first quarter, but would not be able to hold that advantage in falling by a 34-8 margin on Friday.

The Blue Devils scored 20 points in the second quarter to take the lead and added an insurance touchdown in the fourth period to drop the Pirates to 2-5, 0-4 in KMAC play.

Wyatt Denney scored the team’s touchdown. For the game, he finished with 129 yards, which puts him over the 1000-yard mark with a current total of 1008. Journey Williamson hit on 5-of-11 passes for 72 yards with Kalin Briggs catching four passes for 80 yards.

Mount Gilead Indians

Centerburg jumped out to an early 20-point lead over host Mount Gilead on Friday and wound up claiming a 46-14 win over the Indians.

The Indians got touchdowns in both the second and third quarters, but were not able to get closer than a 27-14 margin after falling into that early hole. Cole Fricke scored on a two-yard run in the second period to cut the Trojan lead to 20-6. After Centerburg then opened the third with a touchdown, MG responded with a 25-yard run by Carson Trainer followed by a Cam Vickers’ two-point conversion.

Centerburg would respond with three straight touchdowns to end the game, though, as MG fell to 2-5, 0-4 in league play.

The Indians did have a big day on the ground. Carson Barnum ran for 129 yards, while Vickers added 125 and Trainer finished with 89. The team was held to 10 yards through the air, though, which came on a pass to Boe Sayers.

“Football is a game that will humble you,” said head coach Mike Reid. “Obviously, we had a hard time of shutting down Centerburg’s skill players. They are a solid team. We were able to establish our run game, but we dug ourselves a hole.”
